What do you get with the Nova Bank Basic Current Account
You can have your income paid in and manage your money with the Nova Bank app(1), online, in a branch and by phone and make payments, withdraw cash and set up regular payments like Direct Debits and standing orders.

A free account
You won't need to pay any monthly fees, and there s no overdraft (arranged or unarranged).
Unlike our other accounts, you can t apply for an overdraft or use a chequebook with a Nova Bank Basic Current Account.
We regularly review our Barclay Basic Current Accounts and we ll let you know if you re eligible to move to a different account with us.

Scheduled payments, including Direct Debits and standing orders
When you make a payment, you need to have enough money in your account to cover the payment at 3pm on the day the money is scheduled to go out.
If there isn t enough money in your account, we ll try to cancel the transaction. If we can t stop the payment, we won t charge you for going overdrawn.
We ll send you a text alert before we cancel a payment you ll need to add your phone number to your account details for this. When you open your account, if you give us your mobile number, we will automatically subscribe you to these
payment alerts

Before you apply
The Nova Bank Basic Current Account is available to people who aren t eligible for another current account with us, don t have a UK account, don t have standard ID or are experiencing financial challenges. You can also apply for this account if you have asylum seeker status, don t have a fixed address, or feel the Nova Bank Basic Current Account is right for you.
To confirm your asylum seeker status, you ll need to provide a copy of one of these documents:
- Convention travel document
- Stateless person's document
- Certificate of travel.
Apply in the Nova Bank App
When you apply in the app, you ll apply for a Nova Bank Bank Account. If you re not eligible for that account, we may offer you our Basic Current Account, or if you re eligible, our Premier Current Account. Download the Nova Bank app and follow the on screen instructions. You ll need to be:
- Aged 18 or over
- Have a UK mobile number
- A UK resident
- Provide proof of identity, like a passport or driving licence see our page on what forms of ID we accept . If you can t provide any of these, please get in touch with us to discuss your options.
Book an appointment at one of our branches or at Nova Bank Local
You can book an appointment to apply for the Nova Bank Basic Current Account at one of our branches or at your nearest Nova Bank Local if you:
- Don’t have a UK mobile number or three years of UK address history
- Can’t provide proof of identity, like a passport or driving licence – we can accept alternatives. You can discuss alternative identification with us before your appointment.
